Montero collects two hits in extended spring

LOS ANGELES -- Miguel Montero was tested in his first game of extended spring training.

The injured D-backs catcher went 2-for-4 with a pair of walks and scored twice from first base on hits while serving as the designated hitter Monday.

"He came out of it very well," D-backs manager A.J. Hinch said. "Right out of the gate, so that's good."

Montero will DH again Tuesday and then get behind the plate Wednesday. The D-backs are going to take it slow with Montero's rehab, something that will be difficult for him, as he is itching to get back.

"I have no doubt that he will want to catch in the big leagues on Friday after catching just one day," Hinch said. "But that's unrealistic."

Montero is recovering from surgery to repair a torn meniscus in his right knee. He suffered the injury while running to first base April 11.
