Similar to the Sausage Race at Miller Park and the Presidents Race at Nationals Park, the D-backs Legends Race presented by Henkel will take place at the end of the fifth inning at all home games beginning with the July 2 game against the Dodgers.
The race will feature four D-backs legends -- 10-foot-tall men in uniform with large foam heads designed to represent players who have made significant contributions to the organization on the field. The characters will run a race that will start close to the right-field foul pole and end at the on-deck circle near the D-backs' dugout.
"We are hoping that the D-backs Legends Race will become a must-see in-game feature," said team president and CEO Derrick Hall. "We enjoy showcasing our history, and what better way than to highlight four of our most popular players of the past each and every game? We believe this will be the first time in sports that former players will be featured in a mascot race."
Which four legends will race is, at this point, a tightly guarded secret. The team will announce the players during the three-game series with the Yankees next week at Chase Field.
Following their July 2 debut, the mascots will greet fans before games at the main rotunda entrance of Chase Field, then pose for photos in the St. Joseph's Hospital Sandlot on the upper level after the race and through the end of the game.
