Drew scratched with lingering knee issue

ST. LOUIS -- D-backs shortstop Stephen Drew was scratched from Monday's initial starting lineup due to stiffness in his left knee.

"His knee was a little stiff, and I'm not going to take any chances with it," D-backs manager A.J. Hinch said. "I think he could go and he's available."

Hinch said he may keep Drew out Tuesday as well as a precaution.

Drew first felt the discomfort in his knee while executing a hit-and-run attempt on Friday against the Rays. He did not start on Saturday and was back in the lineup on Sunday.

"I think being on the turf and hard surface in Tampa probably bothered him a little more," Hinch said. "It's nothing that we see being serious."

Drew was in the lineup that Hinch posted before the players arrived at the clubhouse Monday. Once Drew got there and he and Hinch talked, Hinch elected to start Tony Abreu at short.

"It's just kind of a day-to-day thing right now," Drew said.
