D-backs appear to have five GM candidates

CINCINNATI -- It appears there will be five candidates interviewed for the D-backs general manager position.

Interim GM Jerry Dipoto, former Padres GM Kevin Towers and Dodgers assistant GM Logan White are the candidates that have received the most public attention, but Dodgers assistant general manager of player development De Jon Watson is also in the mix, as is Angels director of scouting Eddie Bane. The interviews are being conducted this week.

Bane's name was first reported by FOXSports.com.

The D-backs were interested in interviewing Yankees vice president of scouting Damon Oppenheimer but were denied permission by the Yankees.

D-backs team president and CEO Derrick Hall, who is leading the search, declined to comment on the specifics of the search but last month told MLB.com that the team would interview "five to 10" candidates.

"We would like to have a decision by the end of the season," Hall said when asked about the search. "We're not going to have any comment until it's completed."
