D-backs interview five for GM position

CINCINNATI -- The D-backs concluded interviews with five general manager candidates Wednesday in Phoenix.

Interim GM Jerry Dipoto, former Padres GM Kevin Towers, Dodgers assistant GM Logan White, Dodgers assistant GM De Jon Watson and Angels scouting director Eddie Bane were those interviewed. The D-backs had wanted to talk with Yankees VP of scouting Damon Oppenheimer, but were denied permission to do so by the Yankees.

It is not known if there will be any further candidates interviewed or how long it will be before the D-backs make a decision.

D-backs team president and CEO Derrick Hall has declined comment throughout the process saying only that he hoped to have a permanent GM in place by the end of the season.

However, it would seem the D-backs could have one in place by next week unless they decide to interview more candidates or do another round of interviews.

Dipoto and Towers were seen as the frontrunners when the process began.
