Former Major League infielder Eric Young will join Arizona manager Kirk Gibson's staff as first-base coach, according to a baseball source.
Young will take over for Matt Williams, who is shifting to third base on Gibson's realigned coaching staff.
Most recently a roving instructor for the Houston Astros, focusing on outfield play and baserunning, Young concluded a 15-season playing career in 2006 with the Rangers.
He enjoyed his greatest successes with the Rockies, beginning in 1993. His son, Eric Young Jr., is on Colorado's roster.
The addition of Young leaves leave Gibson with three more vacancies on his 2011 staff: hitting, pitching and bench coaches.
