The D-backs have sold the rights to utility man Rusty Ryal to Japan's Yomiuri Giants, the team announced on Thursday, making official a deal that had been in the works for several weeks.
Ryal, who played parts of two seasons with the D-backs, posted a .261 average last season. He owns a career .263 average in 266 at-bats. The former 14th-round Draft pick was released earlier this month to create roster space.
Ryal is no stranger to the idea of playing in Japan. His father, Mark, played for the Chunichi Dragons for two seasons in the early 1990s.
