D-backs trim roster, down to 54 in camp
TEMPE, Ariz. -- With starting pitchers as well as position players staying in games longer, the number of innings available for backups is shrinking.

With that in mind, the D-backs made several roster moves this week.

The club assigned infielder Andy Tracy, outfielder David Winfree and pitcher Clay Zavada to Triple-A Reno; pitcher Matt Gorgen and outfielder Marc Krauss to Double-A Mobile; catcher Rossmel Perez to Class A Visalia; and pitcher Juan Jaime to Class A South Bend.

"We expect them to show leadership and carry the message where they're headed," D-backs manager Kirk Gibson said, referring to the tone and style of play the team tried to set in big league camp.

The moves leave the D-backs with 54 players in camp, including 15 non-roster players.
