D-backs manager Bob Melvin said he didn't notice any difference in Webb during the negotiations and doesn't expect any after.
"He's dealt with this since Spring Training, so it's not like he hasn't pitched in games with that out there," Melvin said. "I think he's very good about going out there and preparing for his start during the week with consistency, and I think the only thing he's thinking about when he goes out there is getting outs and winning games."
ARI: RHP Brandon Webb (11-3, 3.27 ERA)
Webb's last outing was his poorest of the year. The right-hander allowed seven runs on nine hits and walked five in just 3 1/3 innings against the A's at Chase Field. This will be Webb's second career start at the Metrodome. In his first start in Minneapolis, he allowed three runs over six innings and suffered the loss.
MIN: RHP Livan Hernandez (7-4, 5.51 ERA)
The D-backs are very familiar with Hernandez, who pitched for them for a year and a half, before departing this past offseason as a free agent. "He's done some things differently this year," Melvin said. "The walks are way down. We'll kind of see how he goes about tackling the zone. You know, for the most part, he's going to throw the ball where he wants, and if he misses, it's by design."
Outfielder Eric Byrnes is still on schedule to be activated from the disabled list for Monday's game against the Red Sox at Fenway Park. Byrnes played left field for Class A Visalia on Thursday and was 1-for-4. He was the DH on Friday and went 0-for-4. Melvin said that when Byrnes returns, he would consider giving him more days off, at least initially. ... Third baseman Mark Reynolds left Saturday's game after twisting his right ankle while grounding out in the seventh. The injury did not appear to be serious and Reynolds could be back in the lineup on Sunday.
