PHOENIX -- The D-backs family extended by a generation Wednesday as the club selected manager Kirk Gibson's son, Cameron, in the 38th round with the 1,173rd overall pick.
The 18-year-old center fielder out of Grosse Pointe South High School in Michigan is committed and expected to play at Michigan State next season.
"I think he'd like to go to school and develop," said Kirk, who also played for the Spartans. "I don't know how good he can be, he's got ability. His drive and determination will be tested. He's got to mature and grow up a little bit like the rest of us."
Cameron was a 2012 Louisville Slugger Pre-Season High School All-America in his senior season this year.
"I think he has a dream to be a Major Leaguer someday," Kirk said. "He's worked hard and he continues to work hard. I just try to encourage him if he has a dream to try and realize that dream. There's no pressure from me. If he needs help, wants me to help him in any way, he knows I will always support any of my kids."
