Upton undeterred by trade talk

PHOENIX -- As the July 31 Trade Deadline approaches, D-backs outfielder Justin Upton's name continues to be floated around. A potential distraction for some, D-backs manager Kirk Gibson said the two-time All-Star hasn't let the situation affect him.

"I think Justin has been outstanding throughout the whole thing. I don't think it's something he's distracted by," Gibson said. "He's motivated to be better. He's actually played great for us; he really has. I see him working on things. He's had a great attitude and he's been upbeat."

After going hitless in 10 at-bats to start the second half of the season in Chicago, Upton collected seven hits in the D-backs' four-game series with the Reds.

"He's played with energy and is running hard," Gibson said. "I have no complaints at all."
