D-backs' Bergesen Reports, Club Options Shaw To Reno

The Arizona Diamondbacks announced today right-handed pitcher Brad Bergesen has reported to the club and the team optioned right-handed pitcher Bryan Shaw to Triple-A Reno, according to D-backs’ Executive Vice President & General Manager Kevin Towers.

Bergesen, 26, was claimed by the D-backs on July 20 from the Baltimore Orioles. He had been selected by the Orioles on July 17 from Triple-A Norfolk, where he was 4-3 with a save and 4.03 ERA (36 ER in 80.1 IP) in 22 games (10 starts). In 10 starts, he was 2-3 with a 4.64 ERA (27 ER in 52.1 IP). In 12 relief appearances, he was 2-0 with a save and 2.89 ERA (9 ER in 28.0 IP). In his last 10 relief appearances since June 9, he held opponents scoreless in 6 games for a 2.35 ERA (6 ER in 23.0 IP). Overall, he held righties to a .258 batting average (41-for-159) with 10 walks and 21 strikeouts.

Bergesen, pronounced BURG-uh-sin, spent parts of 3 seasons with the Orioles from 2009-11 and went 17-24 with a 4.68 ERA (205 ER in 394.1 IP) in 83 games (59 starts). In 59 career starts, he was 17-24 with a 4.60 ERA (180 ER in 352.1 IP). In 24 career relief outings, he had a 5.36 ERA (25 ER in 42.0 IP).

Bergesen will wear No. 52.

Shaw, 24, was 1-4 with 2 saves, a 4.26 ERA (18 ER in 38.0 IP) and .283 opponents average with 15 walks and 29 strikeouts in 43 games. Over parts of 2 seasons with the D-backs, Shaw is 2-4 with 2 saves, a 3.53 ERA (26 ER in 66.1 IP) and .278 opponents average with 23 walks and 53 strikeouts.

The D-backs 40-man roster is at 40 players.
