D-backs place Takashi Saito on 15-day disabled list


PHOENIX — The Arizona Diamondbacks announced they have placed right-handed pitcher Takashi Saito on the 15-day disabled list with a strained left hamstring and selected the contract of left-handed pitcher Mike Zagurski from Triple-A Reno, according to D-backs’ Executive Vice President & General Manager Kevin Towers.                       

Saito, 42, has appeared in 10 games with the D-backs this season, going 0-0 with a 6.14 ERA (5 ER in 7.1 IP). He allowed 2 runs on 3 hits in 0.1 innings in his last outing on Aug. 12 vs. Nationals after allowing 3 earned runs in his first 9 (7.0 IP).

Zagurski, 29, was 0-0 with a 6.18 ERA (19 ER in 27.2 IP) in 32 games with Arizona in 2012. He was designated for assignment on Aug. 11 and outrighted to Reno yesterday.

Zagurski was claimed by the D-backs off waivers from the Phillies on Sept. 22, 2011.
