D-backs select Starling Peralta in Rule 5 Draft


NASHVILLE — The Arizona Diamondbacks (@dbacks) selected right-handed pitcher Starling Peralta in Major League Baseball’s Rule 5 Draft, according to D-backs Executive Vice President & General Manager Kevin Towers.

Peralta, 22, went 5-8 with a 3.44 ERA (38 ER in 99.1 IP) and 86 strikeouts in 20 games (17 starts) with Single-A Peoria in the Chicago Cubs organization in 2012. He limited opponents to a .210 average (80-for-368) with the Chiefs, including a .193 mark (48-for-249) by right-handers.

The 6-foot-4, 180-pounder has gone 16-25 with a 4.46 ERA (150 ER in 303.0 IP) in 72 games (57 starts) over 5 Minor League seasons. Peralta was signed by the Cubs as a non-drafted free agent on May 8, 2008.
