NASHVILLE — The Arizona Diamondbacks (@dbacks) have agreed to terms with catcher Wil Nieves on a one-year contract, according to D-backs Executive Vice President & General Manager Kevin Towers.
Nieves, 35, combined to hit .301 (25-for-83) with 2 home runs and 8 RBI in 32 games with Colorado and Arizona in 2012. He was claimed by the D-backs off waivers on Aug. 6 and appeared in 16 games, batting .306 (11-for-36) with 1 homer and 3 RBI.
The 5-foot-11, 190-pound right-hander made 7 starts with Arizona last season (D-backs went 5-2) and hit a 2-run homer in his Arizona debut on Aug. 9 @ Pirates.
Nieves is a .229 (191-for-834) hitter with 7 home runs and 81 RBI in 314 Major League games with San Diego (2002), New York-AL (2005-07), Washington (2008-10), Milwaukee (2011), Colorado (2012) and Arizona (2012). In 2009, he achieved career-highs with the Nationals in RBI (26), hits (58), games (72) and at-bats (224).
