D-backs agree to terms with Eric Hinske

PHOENIX — The Arizona Diamondbacks (@dbacks) have agreed to terms with veteran infielder/outfielder Eric Hinske on a one-year contract, according to D-backs Executive Vice President & General Manager Kevin Towers.

 

Hinske, 35, appeared in 91 games with Atlanta last season, hitting .197 (26-for-132) with 2 home runs and 13 RBI. He appeared in 15 games at first base, 6 in left field and 4 in right, and was 8-for-57 (.140) with 1 home run and 4 RBI as a pinch-hitter.

 

The 6-foot-2, 235-pound left-handed hitter is a career .250 (938-for-3,745) hitter with 136 home runs and 516 RBI over 12 Major League seasons with Toronto (2002-06), Boston (2006-07), Tampa Bay (2008), Pittsburgh (2009), New York-AL (2009) and Atlanta (2010-12). Hinske was named the American League Rookie of the Year in 2002, batting .279 with 24 home runs and 84 RBI.

 

Hinske, who resides in Scottsdale, is a .218 (57-for-262) career pinch-hitter with 8 home runs, 36 RBI and a .317 on-base percentage. He ranks among active Major League pinch-hitters in walks (1st, 36), runs scored (1st, 41), at-bats (3rd), home runs (T-3rd), RBI (4th) and hits (T-4th).

 

Hinske has made 5 career postseason appearances, including 3 consecutive trips to the World Series from 2007-09 with the Red Sox (won), Rays and Yankees (won). In 10 playoff games, he is hitting .286 (2-for-7) with 2 home runs and 3 RBI.
