'Tis The Season: D-backs award 17 families with full season tickets as part of the 2013 Michael Wogan D-backs Season Ticket Scholarship program

The Arizona Diamondbacks announced today that they have awarded 48 lower-level full season tickets to 17 families as part of the 2013 Michael Wogan D-backs Season Ticket Scholarship program that provides tickets for fans experiencing financial hardships.

"The most rewarding part of this program is getting to make the phone calls to these families and surprise them with this gift during the holiday season," said D-backs President & CEO Derrick Hall, who came up with the concept for the program five years ago. "We are all truly grateful for the support these families give us during the season and we're proud to support and assist them during their time of need."

Since 2008, the D-backs have provided families with more than 300 full season tickets for a value of more than $600,000. Families were asked to submit an application via dbacks.com telling their story. Several families who have previously received scholarships in the past have since improved their financial situations and have purchased their own tickets to attend D-backs games at Chase Field.

The Michael Wogan D-backs Season Ticket Scholarship program, which was created in 2008 as the first-of-its-kind in all of sports, awards fans experiencing financial hardships lower-level season tickets to attend D-backs games at Chase Field and also provides parking passes and food concession coupons to some families experiencing additional hardships. In 2011, the D-backs announced that the Season Ticket scholarship program would honor the legacy of Wogan, a past recipient of the scholarship, who lost his life in the Reno air show tragedy on Sept. 16, 2011.
