Corbin impresses with three shutout innings

MESA, Ariz. -- Patrick Corbin was impressive in his second outing of the spring Friday as he battles Tyler Skaggs and Randall Delgado for the No. 5 spot in the rotation.

The D-backs left-hander tossed three shutout innings in relief of Trevor Cahill. Corbin allowed three hits and a walk, while striking out four.

In his first start of the spring last Sunday, Corbin threw a pair of shutout innings.

"He spots his ball well," D-backs manager Kirk Gibson said. "His slider is really a good pitch for him this year. He keeps his composure and continues to make good pitches to get out of it."

Corbin appeared in 22 games for the D-backs last year and was 6-8 with a 4.54 ERA.
