D-backs award Owings, Bradley with monthly honors

PHOENIX -The Arizona Diamondbacks announced today Triple-A Reno infielder Chris Owings and Single-A Advanced Visalia right-handed pitcher Archie Bradley have been named the organization's Minor League Player- and Pitcher-of-the-Month for April, respectively.

Owings, 21, hit .342 (40-for-117) with 7 doubles, 2 triples, 2 home runs, 16 RBI and 6 stolen bases in 26 games in April for the Aces. He led all Minor Leaguers in hits and at-bats, while placing second in the Pacific Coast League in runs scored (26). Owings recorded 13 multi-hit games, 3 six-game hit streaks and 3 runs in a game on 4 occasions. Entering the 2013 season, he was rated by MLB.com as the No. 6 Prospect in the D-backs organization and No. 7 by Baseball America. The Charleston, S.C. native was drafted by the D-backs in the supplemental first round (41st overall) of the 2009 First-Year Player Draft.

Bradley, 20, went 2-0 with a 1.26 ERA (4 ER in 28.2 IP) in 5 starts in April for the Rawhide. He finished the month tied for the Minor League-lead with 43 strikeouts, averaging 13.5 strikeouts per 9.0 innings. To begin the season, Bradley threw 17.2 scoreless innings before giving up a run and 20.2 innings before allowing a home run. Bradley was named the California League Pitcher of the Week for April 4-14 after throwing 11.2 scoreless innings and striking out 19, while limiting opponents to a .184 average (7-for-38) in 2 starts. He entered the season rated by Baseball America as the top prospect in the California League and the No. 25 Prospect in baseball. A native of Muskogee, Okla., Bradley was drafted in the first round (seventh overall) of the 2011 First-Year Player Draft.
