Miguel Perez Quintana, the Spanish play-by-play man for the Arizona Diamondbacks, was arrested Wednesday and charged with aggravated assault with a deadly weapon, intimidation and criminal damage.
Awaiting the outcome of court proceedings, the D-backs immediately suspended Quintana, who allegedly threatened his wife Monday night.
The 53-year-old Quintana surrendered to Phoenix police on Wednesday and was jailed on $10,000 bail. His preliminary hearing is set for July 26.
"The Arizona Diamondbacks take this issue and these allegations very seriously and do not condone, nor will we tolerate violence of any kind," team spokesman Josh Rawitch said. "We have taken immediate action to suspend Miguel until this matter is resolved in court."
After an incident at his home Monday night, Quintana's wife and son called 911. Quintana was not at the house when police arrived later that night, but when contacted Tuesday morning, he agreed to surrender himself to authorities.
