D-backs recall Davidson & Gosewisch from Reno


Arizona Diamondbacks (@Dbacks) have recalled infielder Matt Davidson and catcher Tuffy Gosewisch (@santiagosewisch) from Triple-A Reno and purchased the contract of infielder Chris Owings (@cowings5) from Reno, according to D-backs' Executive Vice President & General Manager Kevin Towers.

To make room on the 40-man roster for Owings, the D-backs also transferred left-handed pitcher Matt Reynolds (strained left elbow) to the 60-day disabled list.

Davidson, 22, batted .280 (124-for-443) with 32 doubles, 17 home runs and 74 RBI in 115 games with Reno in 2013 and was named to the Pacific Coast League midseason All-Star Team. He also appeared in 12 games with Arizona this season, hitting .179 (5-for-28) with 2 RBI.

Davidson, the D-backs' supplemental first-round selection (35th overall) in the 2009 First-Year Player Draft, was named the Most Valuable Player in the 2013 MLB All-Star Futures Game at Citi Field and won the Triple-A All-Star Home Run Derby at Aces Ballpark in Reno, Nev.

Gosewisch, 30, hit .284 (71-for-250) with 20 doubles, 7 home runs and 33 RBI in 72 games with Reno in 2013. He was named to the PCL midseason All-Star Team and threw out 51.1 percent (23-of-45) of attempted basestealers.

Gosewisch, who has played in 8 games with the D-backs this season, is a 2001 graduate of Horizon High School in Phoenix and attended Arizona State University from 2002-05. He signed with the D-backs as a Minor League free agent on Nov. 4, 2012.

Owings, 22, was named the 2013 PCL MVP and Rookie of the Year after batting .330 (180-for-546) with 31 doubles, 8 triples, 12 home runs and 81 RBI in 125 games with the Aces. He will be making his Major League debut and wearing No. 16.

Owings, the D-backs' supplemental first-round selection (41st overall) in the 2009 draft, ranked second among all Minor Leaguers this season in hits, seventh in runs scored (104) and tied for 10th in total bases (263). He also finished among the PCL leaders in hits (1st), runs scored (1st), total bases (1st), average (2nd), triples (T-8th), RBI (T-8th) and doubles (T-10th).

The D-backs' active roster is at 31.
