D-backs acquire Addison Reed from White Sox


The Arizona Diamondbacks (@dbacks) have acquired right-handed pitcher Addison Reed (@Areed43) from the Chicago White Sox for infielder Matt Davidson, as announced by D-backs Executive Vice President & General Manager Kevin Towers.

Reed, who turns 25 on December 27, set career highs in wins, saves, appearances, innings and strikeouts with the White Sox in 2013 and his 40 saves ranked fifth in the American League (seventh in the Majors) while his 69 saves since 2012 are seventh-most in the Majors. In 68 games last season, he went 5-4 with 40 saves (48 opportunities), a 3.79 ERA (30 ER in 71.1 IP) and a .215 opponents average with 23 walks and 72 strikeouts. He limited lefties to a .210 average (30-for-143) with 13 walks and 37 strikeouts while righties hit .220 (26-for-118) with 10 walks and 35 strikeouts.

In 3 seasons with the White Sox, he went 8-6 with 69 saves and a 4.17 ERA (62 ER in 133.2 IP) in 136 career relief appearances while holding opponents to a .243 average with 42 walks and 138 strikeouts. The 6-foot-4, 220-pounder was the White Sox third-round selection in the 2010 First-Year Player Draft.

Davidson, 22, made his Major League debut last season with the D-backs and in 31 games, hit .237 (18-for-76) with 6 doubles, 3 homers and 12 RBI. In 115 games at Triple-Reno, he hit .280 (124-for-443) with 32 doubles, 3 triples, 17 homers and 74 RBI. Davidson was the D-backs first-round selection (35th overall) in the 2009 First-Year Player Draft.
