D-backs' Paul Goldschmidt Continues Quest To Become MLB Network's #FaceOfMLB

|

PHOENIX - Arizona Diamondbacks first baseman Paul Goldschmidt will face Cincinnati Reds first baseman Joey Votto, the defending champion of MLB Network's "Face of MLB," in the second round of the competition which begins today and will continue through Monday at 8:00AM (ET). Goldschmidt defeated Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim outfielder Mike Trout in the first round of the competition, claiming 53 percent of the fan vote via Twitter and trended nationally throughout the entire round. The nearly 29,000 votes Goldschmidt received in the first round is the most votes received so far in this year's competition.

The competition was created by MLB Network last year and is a bracket-style tournament with results determined by fans on Twitter. D-backs fans are encouraged to tweet and retweet #PaulGoldschmidt along with #FaceOfMLB throughout the day to help Goldschmidt surpass Votto and move on to the next round of the competition. Fans can follow @Dbacks to learn how they can win D-backs prizes throughout the weekend. During the first round, the D-backs gave away an autographed Goldschmidt baseball and a special meet and greet opportunity with Goldschmidt at SUBWAY® D-backs FanFest this Saturday.

The D-backs encourage fans to vote at the @D-backs Social Media Zone or at Game Seven Grill throughout SUBWAY® D-backs FanFest. In addition, Goldschmidt will conduct a live Twitter chat with fans at 2:45PM at the @Dbacks Social Media Zone. Follow @Dbacks for details on how to participate in the chat.

Fans voted more than 1.6 million times in the first Face of MLB competition in 2013, revealing emerging MLB stars including Jason Heyward, Jason Kipnis and Andrew McCutchen up against veterans like Derek Jeter, Paul Konerko and Dustin Pedroia. Nearly 700,000 votes were cast for the final round in which Cincinnati Reds MVP first baseman Joey Votto was named the Face of MLB after edging out Los Angeles Dodgers All-Star outfielder Matt Kemp. MLB Network's Hot Stove show asks fans to vote on Twitter each day and decide a winner for the day's head-to-head player matchup until the Face of MLB is determined.
