D-backs' Venezuelan starters set record

PHOENIX -- Five Venezuelan players who started in the D-backs lineup on Sunday -- Gerardo Parra, Miguel Montero, Martin Prado, David Peralta and Ender Inciarte -- recorded hits, which is a Major League first.

Four of the hits came in a fourth-inning rally against the Reds. Montero rocketed an RBI double -- his second hit of the game -- off the right-field wall to score the D-backs' first run of the inning. Prado followed with a single.

After a single by third baseman Eric Chavez, Peralta, making his Major League debut, knocked his first big league hit -- a single to center field.

Inciarte followed with an RBI single, scoring Prado and wrapping up the scoring for the inning.

Parra got his hit later, singling to left field in the seventh inning.

Only the Giants have come close to matching the D-backs' feat. On Sept. 1, 2013, they had five Venezuelan players get a hit, but one of them, Marco Scutaro, was a pinch-hitter.
