Shortstop Nick Ahmed, the D-backs' No. 18 prospect, collected five hits and finished a triple shy of the cycle Tuesday, as Triple-A Reno routed Colorado Springs, 18-4.
Ahmed went 5-for-6 with a home run, two doubles, three runs and three RBIs. It was the second five-hit game of his career.
The Aces got to the Sky Sox pitching staff early, as Ahmed led off the bottom of the first inning with a double. After they batted around, he grounded out for the final out of the inning. In between, Reno scored five runs.
Ahmed doubled again in the fourth inning, singled in the fifth and hit his second home run of the season -- first since April 20 -- in the sixth. He had a chance to complete the cycle in the seventh, but singled again in his final plate appearance.
Ahmed was part of the package the D-backs acquired from the Braves in exchange for Justin Upton in January 2013. He hit .236/.288/.324 with four home runs and 26 stolen bases in 136 games with Double-A Mobile last season, his first in his new organization.
This year, Ahmed is faring better with Reno. He is hitting .318/.389/.421 with two home runs and 10 stolen bases in 75 games.
