PHOENIX -- D-backs manager Kirk Gibson successfully challenged a call at second base in the top of the third inning of Arizona's 3-2 win over the Pirates on Sunday at Chase Field.
After hitting a single to center field, rookie Gregory Polanco tried to steal second base. Polanco clearly beat the throw from catcher Tuffy Gosewisch, but he came off the bag. Although second baseman Aaron Hill applied the tag, the call on the field was safe.
After a quick review, the call was overturned. Gibson is 13-for-26 on replay challenges this season.
In the eighth inning, Polanco was thrown out at home attempting to score with two outs. Umpires called for a review under the home-plate collision rule, but the call was confirmed.
