D-backs award Flores, Madero with monthly honors

The Arizona Diamondbacks (@Dbacks) named Single-A Advanced Visalia infielder Rudy Flores (@ruuudboy11) and Dominican Summer League right-handed pitcher Luis Madero (@LuiisDshow_) the organization's Minor League Player- and Pitcher-of-the-Month for July, respectively.

Flores, 23, hit .381 (45-for-118) with 8 doubles, 10 home runs, 25 RBI and 25 runs scored in 28 games in July for the Rawhide. He ranked among Minor League leaders in July in hits (T-3rd), home runs (T-3rd) and slugging percentage (8th, .703). Flores, who also garnered Visalia's monthly honor in June, reached base safely in 25 of 28 games in July, recorded an 8-game hitting streak from July 5-13 and carries a current 11-game streak into August (from July 22-present). The San Antonio native was drafted in the 21st round of the 2012 First-Year Player Draft from Florida International University.

Madero, 17, went 4-0 with a 0.31 ERA (1 ER in 29.0 IP), 26 strikeouts, 5 walks and a 0.69 WHIP in 5 starts (4 quality) in July for the DSL D-backs. He recorded 28.0 scoreless innings in parts of 6 starts from June 26-July 26, including 4 consecutive scoreless outings from July 2-21. A native of Maracay, Venezuela, Madero was signed by the D-backs as a non-drafted free agent on October 1, 2013.
