Is in his first season as pitching coach with Arizona (31st overall in professional baseball) after serving in the same capacity with Tampa Bay (2006) and Los Angeles-AL (2007-15)...In his 10 seasons as pitching coach, 10 different pitchers were named to the AL All-Star Team: Scott Kazmir (2006), Francisco Rodriguez (2007-08) John Lackey (2007), Joe Saunders (2008), Ervin Santana (2008), Brian Fuentes (2009), Jered Weaver (2010-12), Jordan Walden (2011), C.J. Wilson (2012) and Hector Santiago (2015)...During his tenure with Los Angeles, the Angels ranked second in the AL in quality starts (796) and wins (807), tied for second in complete games (58), finished third in ERA (4.00) and shutouts (105) and fifth in opponent average (.255)...his starting pitchers also led the AL during that span with 590 victories, while his relievers tied for first with 409 saves...Prior to his one-year stint as Joe Maddon's pitching coach with the Rays, spent six seasons in the Angels' Minor League system as pitching coach with Rookie Advanced Butte (2000), Double-A Arkansas (2001) and Triple-A Salt Lake (2002) and their pitching coordinator from 2003-05...Served as pitching coach for Scottsdale in the Arizona Fall League in 2003.


Made 115 relief appearances over four Major League seasons with California and was 11-4 with 9 saves and a 4.47 ERA...On July 6, 1992, made his Major League debut vs. Blue Jays and struck out his only batter faced (Derek Bell)...Earned his first two victories two days apart at Yankee Stadium on Aug. 21 and 23, 1992...Led Angels' relievers with six wins in 1995...Played 11 seasons in the Minor Leagues in the following organizations: Kansas City (1986-88), California (1988-1995, '98), Cleveland (1996) and Seattle (1996)... Selected by the Reds in the fourth round in the 1986 draft but did not sign...signed with the Royals after being drafted in the second round of the June Secondary Draft later that year.


Michael Dana Butcher...Married to Tami...has three children: Madison, Tatum and Brooks...Attended Northeast Oklahoma A&M...Is a 1983 graduate from United Township High School in East Moline, Ill....played baseball, football and wrestled...Family owns Aunt Chilada's and Rustler's Roost restaurants in Phoenix.
